Five Books That Changed My Life

  1. Mindset By Carol S. Dweck

This book has been strategically placed as number one on my list, because prior to reading it I swore that I hated “self-help books”. I always judged self-help cooks and refused to even give them a chance because I thought that they were too cheesy and cliche. I imagined them being packed with advise that too obvious and there unnecessary. This book was on the required reading list for an English class that I took for my undergrad degree. Reading this book not only helped me to understand myself, but it also paved the way for a whole new genre of literature that I previously never would have considered. It is in no way ironic that this book improved my perspective so radically, because the entire purpose of the book is to switch from a “fixed” mindset to a “growth” mindset- and it did exactly that.

2. Super Life By Darin Olien

Darin Olien is the greatest person that I have never met. His book, Super Life, will scare you (in the best way) and inspire you to make the changes that you need to live a healthier life. Darin discusses the five major categories that impact your nutritional health. He talks about the myths behind commonly believe lies regarding health and nutrition and extensive research. But the best part- he tells you HOW to achieve the health goals. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than vague ideas on improvements without much direction. He tells you what is good for you, what to avoid, and even gives you recipes to get started on your journey to living your best life.

3. Beyond Possible By Nirmal Purja

If you want to be inspired, motivated and completely impressed you must read about the achievements of Nirmal Purja (Nimsdai). I discovers Nimsdai when I watched his documentary on Netflix called “14 peaks”. I immediately purchased his book and finished it in 2 days, because it is that good. for those who are not familiar, Nimsdai lead the first expedition to summit all 14 mountains that are over 8,000 meters in less than 7 months. The previous record for reaching the summit of all 14 mountains was just short of 8 years. This book tells the amazing story of a fascinating individual and also inspires you to achieve your own goals. You may not be planning to summit any of the worlds tallest mountains at any point in your lifetime, but this book will show you that your goals- no matter how ambitious- are not impossible.

4. Atomic Habits by James Clear

There’s a reason that this book is recommended so often. Atomic Habits has been the best selling book multiple times and has sold over 8 million copies. Why? It is so simple but effective. James Clear breaks down the 4 laws of behavior change and how to effectively build and maintain good habits and how to minimize or eliminate bad habits. The best part about this book is that he provides easy actionable steps that you can implement in your life to achieve your goals with out feeling like you need to completely change your whole life overnight. He highlights the idea of improving one percent everyday to achieve long-lasting, sustainable results. His advice is easy, actionable, and motivating.

5. Fatal Conveniences by Darin Olien

Yes, another book by Darin Olien has made it on this short list of life-changing books. If Darin Olien started a cult I would immediately join it without questioning it. That might sound extreme, but his wisdom and knowledge is unmatched in my opinion. reading his book is incredible because he creates literature that is more than just reading a book on how to improve your wellness. It feels like you are conversing with an old friend who genuinely wants the best for you. Fatal Conveniences talks about the millions of man-made products that are negatively affecting our bodies, our minds, and the environment. But of course he doesn’t stop there- he gives you actual advise on how to reduce exposure to these harmful chemicals that we are constantly using and alternative products to use that do not harm your body or the environment.
